Addressing the urgent issues back home: Earl Blumenauer’s next big missionW2D welcomes former Congressman Earl Blumenauer, who is returning home to Portland after 30 years in Washington, D.C. Before his election to Congress, he was elected to so many local boards and commissions he was called “the man who knows the most (about) how Portland works.” He will have a conversation with our audience about: Making our local governments work more effectively, (especially with the city of Portland’s new form of government); what things are working in suburban counties that Portland might adopt; and how can local and state governments adapt to the chaos and turmoil of the current presidential administration in D.C.? Bring your questions for a lively exchange.
The Honorable Earl Blumenauer recently retired from serving as the U.S. Representative for Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District, representing most of east Portland and Multnomah County. For 30 years, he commuted back and forth taking on a myriad of tough issues. His expertise in transportation made him a leader in that area. He is now serving as special advisor to the Portland State University president, Dr. Ann Cudd, and as a senior fellow at Portland State’s Institute for Metropolitan Studies. There he will use the university’s resources to help city residents understand and know how to access Portland’s new form of government. Mr. Blumenauer knows the city and state well, having served as an elected representative in the Oregon Legislature from 1972-1979. Additionally, he served on the board of Portland Community College, the Multnomah County Commission, and Portland City Council where he oversaw the city’s Bureau of Transportation. He received both his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Jurisprudence degrees from Lewis & Clark College. The program will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 4:30 pm at the Home Builder’s Association Conference Center at 15555 Bangy Road #100 in Lake Oswego.
