Oregon Health Care—Taking its Temperature and What You Should KnowW2D is very pleased to welcome Dr. Bruce Goldberg who has led Oregon’s transformation of health care over the past decade. He will discuss how the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) is coordinating and improving care for our most vulnerable people, while at the same time saving money with the innovative use of federal waivers.
Dr. Goldberg will present two major challenges threatening access to Oregon’s health care system. First is the influence of private equity groups and the privatization of medical care, as has already happened in Lane, Benton and metro-area counties. This trend will continue without legislative intervention in Salem. Second is the rising cost of health care, since many of the policies are expensive and have high deductibles. Crushing health care debt is the number one reason people file for personal bankruptcy. The program will be held on Thursday, May 9, at 4:30 pm at the Home Builder’s Assn. Conference Center in Lake Oswego. A Q&A session follows. Dr. Bruce Goldberg holds an affiliate faculty appointment in the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health as a Professor in the Health Systems Management and Policy programs. He has devoted his career to and has extensive experience in improving the organization, delivery, management, and financing of health programs and state health policy. He has served two Oregon governors, as the director of the Oregon Dept. of Human Services from November 2005 through February 2011, and as leader of the formation of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) from 2009 through 2013. He led Oregon’s nationally recognized health reforms that transformed the state’s Medicaid system to one based on a model of health and coordinated care. He helped lead efforts to implement the federal Affordable Care Act, and to establish Oregon’s Healthy Kids program, providing health coverage for all children. He also helped lead efforts to improve Oregon’s mental health system and transform delivery of public human services to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. The program will be held at the Home Builder’s Association Conference Center at 15555 Bangy Road #100 in Lake Oswego. Members and guests are asked to reserve by May 6 at www.w2dems.com or call 503-656-4445 (CM Bookkeeping). Cost for members is $15, guests are $20. There will be light refreshments. Doors open at 4:00 pm.
