Fixing Portland: the big challenge for a new City CouncilWillamette Women Democrats (W2D) are pleased to welcome three newly elected members of the Portland City Council: Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney, W2D member & Councilor Olivia Clark and Councilor Steve Novick. The new 12-member council faces a public that expects to see faster and more comprehensive progress on Portland’s most challenging issues. Our speakers will address how they intend to tackle the stubborn problems of homelessness and drug addiction as well as plan for the city’s future in business, arts, transportation, public safety, and environmental protection.
The program will be held in person on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 4:30 pm at the Home Builder’s Association Conference Center in Lake Oswego. A Q&A session will follow. Elana Pirtle-Guiney, President Portland City Council, represents District 2 (NE Portland).Elana most recently served as a special advisor to Oregon Labor Commissioner Christina Stephenson. She was a policy advisor and the Legislative Director for Governor Kate Brown and the Legislative and Communications Director for the AFL-CIO. She has a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Lewis & Clark College. Olivia Clark, Portland City Councilor, represents District 4 (Westside of Portland and a few neighborhoods in SE Portland). Olivia served as the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for Governor John Kitzhaber and as the Executive Director, Public Affairs for Tri-Met. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands and a masters from the University of Oregon. Steve Novick, Portland City Councilor, represents District 3 (SE Portland). Steve is an activist, former Portland City Councilor, and recent attorney with the Oregon Department of Justice. He is well known for his work as a Department of Justice attorney representing the EPA in the Love Canal litigation. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon and of Harvard Law School. The program will be held at the Home Builder’s Association Conference Center at 15555 Bangy Road #100 in Lake Oswego.
