Programs & Events
Our monthly programs feature the most influential political figures in the state as well as speakers representing organizations that reflect our progressive values.
Our new season began in September, and so does a new membership year. Please renew your annual membership in W2D, or, if you are new to our organization, please join us!
As an all volunteer non-profit, we do our best to keep pricing low. For members, the $15 admission doesn't cover our costs, but your supporting membership subsidizes our operating expenses so that we can keep going.
Join our mailing list for up-to-date information on upcoming programs and events! You can opt out at any time.
EMERGE OREGON: Unleashing the Political Power of the Women
with Emerge Oregon's Executive Director, Jillian Schoene.
Trump’s election has created a surge of Democratic women interested in running for office. So much so that Emerge Oregon created two training sessions this year to keep up with demand. Emerge Oregon, founded in 2009, has a strong track record of building a farm team of talented women who have been elected to office or have been appointed to local boards or commissions. Unlike other states where Democrats have been losing political power, Oregon has succeeded in increasing the number of women elected to local, regional, and state offices. This translates directly into a state government that works to improve the lives of Oregonians and to stave off policies that encroach on the right to vote, the right to healthcare, the right to a good education, and the civil rights of citizens.
Come hear Jillian and meet some Emerge graduates, including W2D member Sonya Fischer, who have successfully run for or have been appointed to public office.
Jillian Schoene has been the Executive Director at Emerge Oregon since 2014 and was the State Director for the Hillary for Oregon campaign during the 2016 primary. She has spent the last 16 years working in Oregon politics, at all levels of government, for both elected officials and candidates running for office. Before joining Emerge, Ms. Schoene worked with numerous candidates, including Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, Governor Kate Brown and Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury. She also worked for two members of Congress, Governor Ted Kulongoski, and was Governor John Kitzhaber’s spokesperson during his 2010 gubernatorial campaign. As a strong advocate for women’s reproductive health, she is board vice chair for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon.
Sonya Fischer graduated from the Emerge class of 2015 and was recently appointed to the Clackamas County Commission. She will complete the remaining term of Position #5, which runs through December 2018.
The public is invited to hear this informative program. Light refreshments will be served. To guarantee seating and food, please RSVP by Monday, April 10.
